Genesis 1:26-30; 3:8-13
The Christian life is a daily battle between the flesh and the spirit; good and
evil (Galatians 5:16-18). If you appreciate and admit this fact, then it follows
naturally, that if you don’t dominate you will be dominated.
If you have been dominated, the will and desire of God is that you will have
dominion daily. Dominion demands nourishing daily devotion, whereas
neglect leads to defeat.
Daily dominion comes through nurturing a habit of daily devotion.
“No one ever lost out by excessive devotion to Christ”-Ironside.
P1. Demand for a Nourishing Daily Devotion
Psalm 5:3; 55:17; Leviticus 6:8,9,12,13; Hosea 6:3; 1 Peter 2:1-5; 2 Peter 1:3-12;3:18
God demands daily, nourishing devotion :
- It is only those who cultivate the habit of daily and nourishing devotion who are wholly devoted to God
- Bible reading and prayer should be the key that unlocks your day and locks your night
- The secret to spiritual growth and power is a nourishing daily devotion
“Revival begins in the individual’s heart. Let it begin with you on your face alone before God. Turn from every sin that might hinder. Renew yourself to a new devotion to the Saviour” – Roberson.
P2. Defeat through Neglect of Daily Devotion
Matt. 26:31-45, 56-58, 69-75; 1 Peter 5:8,9; 1 Corinthians 10:12; 2 Peter 3:17,18
Neglect of daily devotion is spiritually deadly:
- An athlete who constantly skips and misses training will be rendered unfit for any competition
- A soldier who is too entangled with the affairs of this life, and lazy to engage in necessary drills is not combat-ready
- A spiritually malnourished believer becomes an easy target and prey for the tempter and his temptations
- If you don’t want to be dominated again by Satan and sin, determine not to neglect your daily devotion
“The saint’s sleeping time is Satan’s tempting time” – Gurnall.
P3. Dominion through Nurturing Daily Devotion
Genesis 32:1-11,22-28; Daniel 6:3-10,13,16,19-24; Mark 1:21-42;6:46; Luke 5:12-16; 6:12
Take dominion by nurturing a habit of daily, nourishing devotion:
- Satan trembles when he sees the weakest Christian on his knees, looking into the ‘mirror’
- Spiritual power and dominion belongs to those who frequent their closets to be alone with God, and to recharge
- You can’t over pray – strive to become addicted to prayer
- Remember no prayer no power; more prayer more power
“We must devote, not only times and places to prayer, but be everywhere in the spirit of devotion; with hearts always set toward heaven, looking up to God in all our actions, and doing everything as His servants; living in the world as in a holy temple of God, and always worshiping Him, though not with our lips, yet with the thankfulness of our hearts…” – William Law.
